i ride a killing machine to work each day.

and today, the ride home was delayed by about 90 minutes by someone who failed to realize that those big metal arms with the flashing red lights that dissuade you from crossing the tracks really should NOT be disregarded. this was the thirteen fatality this year on the caltrain line, which only represents like 60 something miles along the peninsula.

so after hanging out at rudy’s in palo alto to have a few drinks and watch the a’s game til a fellow caltrain rider stuck on an earlier train in atherton told us he was finally moving, i got home to check the news and found the typically solid reporting of the san mateo times to give me to downlow on the story. i was shocked though to then find a freaking video from the local CBS station which provides a terrifying example of how far a train going full speed will drag your ass before you lie there covered by two tarps for all the world to see. the first 35 seconds were about all i needed though, thanks.
